CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH GOODS ARE VERIFIED
Once the itemized declaration has been registered, the customs department may, if it sees fit, verify all or part of the goods declared.
In the event of a dispute, the declarant has the right to challenge the results of the partial verification and to request full verification of the statements on the declaration to which the dispute relates.
Goods declared at customs offices may only be verified in customs warehouses or in places designated for this purpose by the customs department.
Transport of goods to the verification site, unpacking, repacking and any other handling required for verification are carried out at the expense and under the responsibility of the declarant.
Goods that have been taken to custom warehouses or to the verification site may not be moved without the permission of the customs department.
Persons employed by the declarant to handle goods for customs clearance must be approved by the customs department; without such approval, they are forbidden access to customs warehouses and places designated for verification.
Verification takes place in the presence of the declarant or his authorized representative.
If the declarant fails to show up to inspect the goods, the customs department will notify him by registered letter of its intention to begin inspection operations, or to continue them if they had been suspended. If, on expiry of a period of eight days after this notification, the latter has remained without effect, the competent court within which jurisdiction the customs office is located shall, at the request of the head of the customs office, appoint ex officio a person to represent the defaulting declarant and attend the inspection.
